These are two emails sent out by Nicole to family. I’m posting them here for everyone else as well.

They think Catherine might have an infection somewhere. Her heart rate remains elevated, her breathing rate is elevated, and she has a low grade fever. They are giving her blood, drew some for a culture, and took a urine sample. Her incision looks good, no redness or swelling, and her belly is soft, not enlarged. Jim is with her now, he says she looks like she doesn’t feel well. They think it may be a UTI. They are giving her antibiotics right now. Thanks for the prayers!

Jim just called, he says she looks a lot better now. Her heart rate is back in the 150s-160s, and her breathing has slowed, and her temp is normal. She got the blood and some anti-biotics. The results from the urine (urinalysis) did not indicate infection there. The NP thinks it might be the PICC line. From her CBC, she said that there is definitely an infection somewhere from the immature WBC count. I guess it’s high. Jim said she explained it as she is just throwing immature WBCs out to fight it, not even letting them mature. She said they will know more tomorrow. Thanks again for the prayers!
