“Will you accept children lovingly from God, and bring them up according to the law of Christ and his Church?” – Rite of Marriage #59
Eluana (this poem is from a father’s heart looking at his own daughter and sons. I pray that Eluana’s father will have a change of heart.)
A gift you gave me O God
flesh of my flesh
my eyes, my ears
Your likeness, Yours
A flower in my garden
pink and beautiful
petals, stem
spirit, soul
The rains came down
growth and grace
bright, pleasing
eternal, Yours
An enemy entered over the gate
trampled underfoot
bent, broken
spirit, soul remain
Please uproot! The world cries!
broken petals, look away
sight, not as God’s
eternal, still Yours (still mine)
What sort of life? They say
for a right to die they prey
mercy, not as God’s
heart, blood (mine)
A gift you gave me O God
to love as I am able
protect us both O God
from the brother of Abel.
“A bruised reed he shall not break, and a smoldering wick he shall not quench..” – Matthew 12:20
