As our family continues to grow (no we aren’t expecting) with marriage and grandchildren, I’ve decided we need a bigger table. I’m replacing this one that I built in 2012 when we only had 6 children…

Rather than buy one that will fulfill our needs, I’ve begun creating my own. This one should seat 12 comfortably.
It’s what I call a poor-man’s castle table. I took a 4×8 sheet of sanded plywood and attached 2×4 edges using pocket screws. I then filled in some small gaps between the plywood and edges with putty. Over and over I was told it wasn’t dark enough so I stained it numerous times, too many to count.
I then applied 3-4 coats of polyurethane, sanding and cleaning between each coat. This past weekend I tried my hand at an epoxy seal coat. I’ll now sand that and add a top flood coat. I believe the Queen thinks it’s too shiny! If that’s the case, I’ll add another layer or two of poly to reduce the shine. I’ll post pictures of the finished table either in the dining area or on the burn pile when it’s finished….
