I’ve spent an inordinate amount of time thinking about this very situation. Dreaming is probably the more appropriate word here. I suppose that’s why I buy a lottery ticket every now and then. It gives me license to actually have those dreams and make those plans.
I’m guessing the question is really hinting at what would I do with the money. For me, what to do with the money is the easy question. What would I do with my newfound time and freedom is the more difficult question.
What I’d do with the money
Pay Off Debt – The first thing to address would be any outstanding debt. This would include credit cards, mortgages (ours and our children’s), student loans (kids), etc.
Give to Charity – I would divide what remains, assuming this is 10+ million, and put half into a Donor Advised Fund that I could use for charitable giving – parishes, organizations, etc.
Invest – I would take the remainder and invest it with a trusted financial advisor. I already have two in mind. Looking you, Dave and Steve!
Spend – With any other money and money from investments I would buy my dream truck and probably take a trip to Hawaii. I’ve always wanted these two things.
What I’d do with my time and freedom

Write – I would dedicate more time to working on the endless writing projects that I have but also keep writing here and responding to these writing prompts for fun.
Farm – I would dedicate more time to working on our property and farming. In the past I’ve thought about creating a non-profit farm that would be used for both education and production that would go to food banks etc.
Volunteer – I would volunteer to teach, tutor, work.
Side Note: If a loved one has the same or similar dreams as above you may want to consider life insurance! Life Insurance can help make those dreams a reality for those you leave behind. What would you do if you won the lottery? Let me know in the comments!!
