I wrote this little poem 2 years ago on whim for my kids when Becket asked if Jesus had a puppy. It became one of my most popular posts/poems. We later made it into a fun little book for dog lovers. The book is beautifully illustrated by a talented young lady from our parish. It includes the poem, prayers, coloring pages, and more. Get a copy for yourself or any dog lover in your life. Maybe a gift for the Feast of St. Roch, patron of dogs and their owners (August 16th)
Did Jesus Have a Puppy
Did Jesus have a puppy?
To keep Him warm at night,
One that snuggled close and licked,
His face in the morning light?
Did Jesus have a puppy?
Was it gold, brown, or black?
Did Jesus rub her belly,
When she rolled over on her back?
Did Jesus have a puppy?
Did He teach her to do tricks,
Like rolling over, playing dead,
Or fetching balls and sticks?
Did Jesus have a puppy?
Did she like to nap all day?
And greet Him with a waggy tail,
When He had been away.
Did Jesus have a puppy?
Did she tumble, jump, and flop?
Did she roll in the sawdust,
As Joseph worked in his shop?
Did Jesus have a puppy?
Did she yip and yap,
Begging Mary for the treats,
She kept hidden on her lap?
Did Jesus have a puppy?
And did they go for walks,
To quiet, hidden hillsides,
And have friendly little talks?
Did Jesus have a puppy?
Did she ever play in snow?
Did she get the zoomies,
And put on a crazy show?
Did Jesus have a puppy,
When He was 5, or 6 or 7?
I pray our puppies can play together,
In the flowing fields of Heaven.
